Coupled simulation provides multi-domain analysis of thermal, mechanical and electrical performance

چکیده
Product reliability has long been the concern of the aerospace and medical industries where failure in the field can have catastrophic consequences. These products must demonstrate readiness to operate under the harsh conditions of extreme temperatures and/or power levels without serious performance degradation. In the past, accessing the reliability of a particular component has been the responsibility of the design engineer working closely with specialized test engineering to replicate realistic field conditions. This approach is costly, extremely time consuming and prone to inadequate identification of likely failure mechanisms. Recent developments in simulation technology now allow engineers to investigate the cause of component breakdown as it relates to heat, stress and exposure to excessive power. By coupling thermal, mechanical and electrical analyses into a multi-domain simulation, the inter-relationships between these properties can be accounted for. This article examines how these coupled technologies work; how they improve simulation accuracy and some of the applications where multi-domain analysis makes a comprehensive reliability study feasible and practical.

Dynamic Coupled Thermo-Viscoelasticity of a Spherical Hollow Domain
The generalized coupled thermo-viscoelasticity of hollow sphere subjected to thermal symmetric shock load is presented in this paper. To overcome the infinite speed of thermal wave propagation, the Lord-Shulman theory is considered. Two coupled equations, namely, the radial equation of motion and the energy equation of a hollow sphere are obtained in dimensionless form. Resulting equations are ...

Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, a multi-physics simulation model based on finite element method (FEM) is introduced for the multi-layer switched reluctance motor (SRM) in the present paper. The simulation model is created totally in ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) as a parametric model usable for various conventional types of this motor and it is included electromagnetic, therm...
متن کاملOptimization of Fan Geometry for Urban Train Traction Motors using Coupled Numerical Electromagnetic and Thermal Analysis
One of the most important parameters in designing electrical motors is heat generation by the motor and the way it is dissipated. Temperature rising reduce efficiency and reliability of traction motors and leads to failure. In this paper, an urban train traction motor in a 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation has been investigated. Maxwell software for electromagnetic simulation and...
متن کاملMultiphysics modeling approach for micro electro-thermo-mechanical actuator: Failure mechanisms coupled analysis
The lifetime of micro electro–thermo–mechanical actuators with complex electro–thermo–mechanical coupling mechanisms can be decreased significantly due to unexpected failure events. Even more serious is the fact that various failures are tightly coupled due to micro-size and multi-physics effects. Interrelation between performance and potential failures should be established to predict reliabil...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Nugget Geometry and Temperature Distribution in Resistance Spot Welding
Resistance spot welding is an important manufacturing process in the automotive industry for assembling bodies. The quality and strength of the welds and, by extension, the body is mainly defined by the quality of the weld nuggets. The most effective parameters in this process are sheet material, geometry of electrodes, electrode force, current intensity, welding time and sheet thickness. The p...
